WFTV Four Nations Mentoring Scheme 2023 call for applications

Date Posted: October 4, 2022

The Women in Film and Television (WFTV) Four Nations Mentoring Scheme, sponsored by Netflix, is seeking applications. The scheme is designed for women looking to take a significant step in their career – 41 mentees will be selected from across the four nations including 7 from Northern Ireland, to take part in the 2023 programme. It runs for six months from January 2023, during which time each of the participants are paired up with senior industry professionals for six hours of mentoring contact alongside peer-to-peer training and seminars, coaching, WFTV events and wider industry networking opportunities. To be eligible to apply for this scheme applicants from Northern Ireland must have five years’ experience or more in the film and TV industry.

WFTV is committed to equal opportunities and developing diversity and inclusivity across the industry, so it puts key targets in place for its mentoring schemes to ensure the schemes are both diverse and inclusive. Last year, 40% of our mentees came from minority ethnic backgrounds and 30% came from social disadvantaged backgrounds, but we didn’t do so well attracting disabled women to the scheme. So this year, WFTV is reserving two places on this scheme for disabled women working in the media. If you are a disabled woman and don’t have the full five years’ industry experience you can still apply.

The WFTV Mentoring Scheme is for you if you are driven to succeed, but are facing a career challenge, such as:

  • Making the step up to the next level
  • Dealing with new responsibilities following a promotion
  • Setting up as a freelancer or running your own production company
  • Juggling family life with work life
  • Returning to work after maternity leave or redundancy
  • Making a move into a different discipline.

Mentors who took part in the 2022 scheme include Line Producer Alex Boyd, Director Gurinder Chadha, Composer Justine Barker, Netflix Commissioners Jonny Taylor and Zainab Ali Khan, DOP Seamus McGarvey, Actress, Writer and Producer Sharon Horgan and VFX Supervisor Sheila Wickens.
