Macmillan Media’s EDI Ready courses are designed to help everyone in our creative industries address the essentials of managing and being part of an inclusive workforce. This learning suite provided by carefully selected experts contains 8 valuable modules as part of the SCREEN BFI Skills cluster.

 

APRIL COURSES:

4th April– Mentoring

Training in the following core skills: defining expectations, goal-setting, active listening, asking powerful questions to encourage the mentee to think for themselves, and using the GROW model to create action plans.

10th April- Neurodiversity in the Screen Industry 

Get a general introduction to the concept of neurodiversity, its history and the main theorists. The participants will discuss the relevant conditions/neurotypes that come under the umbrella of Neurodiversity including their different strengths, challenges and conceptualisations.

18 April- Bullying and harassment

Understand and Implement Respectful Workplace Practice

The workshop is an introduction to how we can better support employers and workplace leaders to develop a culture of empowerment and co-operation, where employees are treated fairly, diversity is celebrated, and communication is open and collaborative.

25 April- Ethnicity 

Understand the significance of ethnic diversity in film and TV productions within the Northern Ireland context.

  • Identify challenges and opportunities related to ethnic diversity in the industry.
  • Develop strategies to enhance authentic representation in storytelling.
  • Acquire tools to create inclusive and respectful working environments.
  • Explore case studies and best practices from the global entertainment industry.

30 April- Triple C – 5As 

The 5As – Anticipate, Ask, Assess, Adjust and Advocate – are guidelines for disability inclusion in UK TV production, created by the TV Access Project*. The 5 As were drawn up by, and in close consultation with, professionals from across the industry with lived experience and specialist expertise of disability. They are open to being adopted by any broadcaster, streamer, production company or industry body who wishes to do so.

MAY COURSES:

8th May – How to Overcome Unconscious Bias

An interactive session which starts with the terms and examples of diversity, inclusion, unconscious bias, micro-aggressions, cultural intelligence, and cultural wisdom in the workplace context.

17th & 24th May- Mental Health First Aid  

This 2-day (17th + 24th May) specialist course has been devised to increase participants’ knowledge and confidence in providing first aid and support for people experiencing mental health problems at home and at work.

Recognised and approved by the Public Health Agency, the training educates and delivers the message that mental health problems are everybody’s business, affecting neighbours, friends, colleagues, relatives, and ourselves.
