Date Posted: May 25, 2023

Northern Ireland animation studio Educational Voice has released Stories, Histories, Heroes, a fun and informative animated series celebrating the lives and work of some of history’s finest local innovators.

Made with support from Northern Ireland Screen’s Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund, the series features the remarkable achievements of James Martin, Frank Pantridge, Anne Acheson, Annie Maunder and John Boyd Dunlop, five distinguished Ulster-Scots visionaries who have left a lasting impact on the world of STEM.

The animated shorts and accompanying learning resources aim to educate and inspire young audiences by presenting the incredible accomplishments of these local heroes in a captivating and entertaining format. The project also aims to provide accessible learning content that inspires an appreciation of local Ulster-Scots history.

The entire resource is freely available to all schools in Northern Ireland and across the globe as well as historical organisations and museums. Teachers and students can simply visit the Learning Mole website to learn about the fascinating lives of these five admirable Ulster-Scots pioneers.

“This excellent interactive resource from Educational Voice highlights some of the significant contributions people from Ulster-Scots backgrounds have made to science and technology throughout history,” said Matthew Warwick from the Ulster-Scots Community Network who acted as Ulster-Scots Consultant on the project. “These accessible animations compliment STEM learning for Key Stage 2 pupils, teachers and parents here in Northern Ireland and across the world.”

“This is our first digital project with Educational Voice and we are delighted with the work they have created,” added Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund Executive Heidi McAlpin. “The animations are extremely engaging and each episode is packed with information. These, together with the additional learning resources, have brought the success stories of these Ulster-Scots innovators bang up to date.”
