SUBMISSIONS FOR GEALÁN | THE FEATURE LENGTH IRISH LANGUAGE DRAMA INITIATIVE
Date Posted: February 9, 2024
The ILBF, BBC Gaeilge and TG4 are seeking ideas for Gealán – the feature length Irish language drama initiative. Doineann, which premiered previously at the Belfast Film Festival, and winner of last year’s RTS NI award for Best Drama, was the first project to come from this collaborative initiative. Filming will shortly begin on the second project from the initiative Aontas.
We are seeking ideas for a feature length drama set in an environment where Irish would be spoken naturally. The drama should have both a national and international appeal.
The drama fund will initially support the development of two projects with one of those projects supported for production of a low budget feature film.
The aim of the scheme is to support and develop the Irish language drama sector in Northern Ireland, enabling the production of entertaining content with international appeal.
The feature would have a cinematic and/or festival release prior to broadcast on both TG4 and BBC Northern Ireland.
The development budget available is £22,500 per project and the production budget available will be approximately £450,000 (including tax credit).
Development applications will be accepted from individuals or production companies, based in Northern Ireland, but in all cases the proposed writer and director must be fluent Irish speakers.
The development period will also include support from an experienced script editor and may include other forms of support where applicable.
To apply for development funding please submit the following documents in Irish:
- Short description (2-3 paragraphs)
- Outline (maximum 10 pages)
- Director’s notes (1 page)
- Proposed production team, outlining their experience to date (producer, director, writer)
- Proposed Budget
- Confirmation of ownership of idea
Applications should be sent via email to [email protected].
Deadline for receipt of applications is Thursday 7th March 2024 at 5pm.
TIONSCNAMH DRÁMAÍ FAD SCANNÁIN – GEALÁN
Tá an CCG, BBC Gaeilge & TG4 ar lorg moltaí do Gealán – an tionscnamh maoinithe le haghaidh dráma Gaeilge ar fhad scannáin. Ba é Doineann, a craoladh ag Féile Scannáin Bhéal Feirste agus a bhain leis an duais sa rannóg Drámaíochta ag na duaiseanna RTS NI le déanaí an chéad togra a d’eascair as an tionscnamh maoinithe seo. Cuirfear tús le scannánaíocht gan mhoill leis an dara thogra ón tionscnamh maoinithe, Aontas.
Tá muid ag cuardach smaointí do dhráma i gcomhthéacs nádúrtha ina mbeadh Gaeilge á labhairt de ghnáth. Beidh an dráma tarraingteach ag an phobal náisiúnta agus idirnáisiúnta araon.
Tacóidh an ciste drámaíochta le dhá thionscadal a fhorbairt agus maoineofar ceann acu siúd chun príomhscannán beagchostais a léiriú.
Is é aidhm na scéime, tacú le hearnáil drámaíochta na Gaeilge i dTuaisceart Éireann agus í a fhorbairt chun ábhar siamsúil atá tarraingteach ar bhonn idirnáisiúnta a léiriú.
Craolfar an príomhscannán sna hamharclann agus nó ag féiltí sula gcraolfar ar TG4 agus ar BBC NI araon é.
Is é £22,500 an buiséad forbartha atá ag dul do gach tionscadal agus beidh timpeall £450,000 i gceist leis an bhuiséad léiriúcháin (le faoiseamh cánach san áireamh).
Glacfar le hiarratais ó dhaoine aonair nó ó chomhlachtaí léiriúcháin atá lonnaithe i dTuaisceart Éireann ach ní mór don scríbhneoir agus don stiúrthóir a luaitear leis an tionscadal a bheith líofa sa Ghaeilge.
Mar chuid den tréimhse forbartha cuirfear tacaíocht ar fáil ó eagarthóir scripte seanchleachta agus d’fhéadfadh go mbeadh tacaíocht ar bhealaí eile i gceist chomh maith.
Chun iarratas ar mhaoiniú forbartha a dhéanamh, cuirtear isteach na cáipéisí i leanas i nGaeilge:
- Coimre ghairid (2-3 pharagraf)
- Creatlach (10 leathanach ar a mhéad)
- Nótaí an stiúrthóra (1 leathanach)
- Foireann léiriúcháin molta, ag tabhairt le fios an taithí atá acu go dtí seo (léiritheoir, stiúrthóir, scríbhneoir)
- Buiséad molta
- Deimhniú ar úinéireacht an smaointe
Ba chóir na hiarratas a sheoladh chuig [email protected].
