Oul Treasures returns for a second series with presenter Lolly Spence uncovering family heirlooms and prized possessions from bygone days, each in need of repair.
Co-funded by the Northern Ireland Screen’s Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund, this three-part series sees Lolly meet a range of craftspeople who have the traditional heritage skills required to restore our ‘oul treasures’.
In the first episode, Lolly visits Carnalbanagh, an Ulster-Scots townland high in the hills of Co Antrim, to meet David Conly who inherited an old biscuit box of film reels from his cousin Hugh.
David recently discovered the biscuit box and with the help of Rachel Cooke, a local wedding photographer who has a keen interest in film restoration, hopes the footage can be preserved to reveal a lost record of community life in Carnalbanagh.
Later in the series, Lolly visits the Orchard County of Armagh and meets a vintage tractor enthusiast with a very uniquely modified ‘wee grey Fergie’.
After years of neglect, our restorer has a serious challenge on his hands to get the tractor ready in time for the apple harvest.
On the outskirts of Banbridge in Co Down, Lolly finds an old Lambeg drum in need of repair and it has more than a few parts missing.
For this drum to beat again, there are two stages to the restoration work, with one restorer overseeing the structural work on the body of the instrument and another to repair the intricate paint work.
Oul Treasures, was made by Below The Radar TV for BBC Northern Ireland, and airs Monday 14 July at 8.30pm on BBC One Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer.
