Irish Language series returns to challenge clothing-obsessed fashionistas to alter habits

Date Posted: June 20, 2023

Caoimhe Ní Chathail and Proinsias Ó Coinn return for a brand new series of Éadaí SOS to get us thinking differently about our wardrobes. The Irish Language Broadcast Fund series produced by Waddell Media begins on Monday 26th June at 10pm on BBC Two Northern Ireland.

Our shopping habits can have a terrible impact on the environment and on our planet. Every year millions of tonnes of clothing are burned or dumped in landfill, yet for many of us our fast fashion addiction continues.

Caoimhe and Proinsias challenge four clothing-obsessed fashionistas to alter their fashion habits and embrace a more sustainable way of enjoying their passion for fashion.

Each episode features a lover of fast fashion with an overflowing wardrobe and a tendency to splash the cash on outfits for every occasion – with no consideration for the consequences to the planet.

Caoimhe starts with a visit to the home of each of our self-confessed shopaholics, where it’s easy to see the scale of the problem. With her team of helpers, they confiscate their clothes for further analysis, leaving the poor contributor with just 15 items of clothing to wear for a fortnight – including work clothes and shoes. And to make things that little bit more challenging, they’re also on a shopping ban.

Back in The Loft, Proinsias provides an insight into how many items of clothing the contributors have and shares the shocking statistics about how infrequently many of the items of clothing are worn, with some never worn at all!

But support is on hand with a team of experts including fashion psychologist, Dr Dion Terrelonge, seamstress, Bronagh Crothers and costume designer, Moya Doogan. They set about showing the shopaholics ways that they can alter their habits and adopt sustainable fashion and how to reuse and recycle what’s in their wardrobes without sacrificing their individual style.

The full series will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer after the first episode airs on Monday 26th June at 10pm on BBC Two Northern Ireland.

Tá sraith de chuid an Chiste Chraoltóireachta Gaeilge, Éadaí SOS ar ais ag cur dúshláin roimh cheathrar atá gafa le faisean, lena gcuid nósanna a athrú

Tá sé mar mhisean ag Caoimhe Ní Chathail agus Proinsias Ó Coinn muid a chur ag smaoineamh faoinár gcuid éadaí ar bhealach éagsúil i sraith úr de Éadaí SOS. Tá an tsraith léirithe ag Waddell Media do BBC Gaeilge agus TG4, le tacaíocht ó Chiste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge  agus beidh an chéad chlár craolta  ar Luan 26 Meitheamh ar BBC a Dó Thuaisceart Éireann ag 10i.n.

Bíonn tionchar nach beag ag ar nósanna siopadóireachta ar an timpeallacht agus ar an domhan. Gach bliain dóitear, nó dumpáiltear na milliúin tonna d’éadaí i líonadh talún, ach tá andúil againn go fóill san fhaisean ghasta.

Éadaí SOS ar ais don dara sraith agus Caoimhe agus Proinsias, na láithreoirí, ag cur dúshláin roimh cheathrar atá gafa le faisean, lena gcuid nósanna a athrú agus le cuidiú leo bealach inbhuanaithe a aimsiú a ndúil san fhaisean a chothú.

I ngach clár, dírítear ar dhuine amháin a bhfuil dúil as cuimse acu san fhaisean ghasta, a bhfuil a vardrús lán go doras acu, agus nós acu feisteas nua a cheannach do gach ócáid – gan smaoineamh ar na himpleachtaí a bhíonn ann don domhan.

Téann Caoimhe ar cuairt chuig teach an rannpháirtí ag tús gach clár, áit a bhfuil sé furasta an fhadhb a aithint. Tógann Caoimhe agus a cuiditheoirí na héadaí uile ar shiúl leo le hanailís a dhéanamh orthu, agus an rannpháirtí fágtha gan ach 15 ball éadaí le caitheamh go ceann coicíse. Anuas air sin, tá cosc iomlán ar an siopadóireacht le linn na tréimhse!

Ar ais san áiléar, tugann fear na bhfigiúirí, Proinsias, léargas ar líon na n-éadaí atá ag an rannpháirtí agus roinneann sé staitisticí suntasacha faoina héadaí nach mbíonn caite acu chomh minic sin nó ar chor ar bith go fiú!

Tá crann taca in aice láimhe, áfach, le foireann saineolaithe a thugann treoir agus tacaíocht. Dr Dion Terrelonge, an síceolaí faisin, Bronagh Crothers, an bhean fuála, agus an dearthóir feistis, Moya Doogan. Tugann an triúr comhairle agus nodanna don rannpháirtí lena nósanna a athrú, a gcuid éadaí féin a athnuachan agus le feisteas úr a chruthú a luíonn lena stíl uathúil féin.

Beidh an tsraith ar fáil ina hiomláine ar BBC iPlayer ón Luan 26 Meitheamh leis an chéad chlár le feiceáil ar BBC a Dó Thuaisceart Éireann ar 10i.n.
