Irish Language series Peataí! returns to our screens!

Date Posted: August 17, 2023

How do you tell the difference between a pug and a jug? How do you stop a puppy from chewing everything in sight? What to do about a lonely gecko? All these questions and more will be explored by presenter Tessa Fleming and a panel of experts on the brand-new Irish Language Broadcast Fund series of Peataí! Produced by Big Mountain Productions, the four-part series begins on Monday 28th August at 10pm on BBC Two Northern Ireland and on RTÉ One in autumn.

We are completely head over heels for our pets! They help us through the obstacles in our lives and all they expect in return is love and friendship. In this brand new series of Peataí!, we welcome every kind of animal (and their owners) from the four corners of the island, on the hunt for advice, expertise and some all round fun with our furry (and scaly) friends!

In Ballynahinch in County Down, we meet the animal experts at the pop-up clinic – vet Ellen Hegarty, groomer Paul Ó Gallachóir and dog behaviourist Paula Doohan. This team of experts is on hand to answer all our burning questions about animal care.

From fun-loving dogs to a feisty royal python, from gorgeous guinea pigs to a lonely gecko, we have every kind of animal on Peataí! Vet Ellen gives medical advice, tips for animal care and assists pets with any burgeoning health worries. No matter if it’s an overweight cat or an aging turtle – no day is the same for our vet!

When it comes to dog grooming, Paul Ó Gallachóir and his wife Hannah know everything there is to know to get our four-legged wonders looking lovely and sharp – no matter the breed! Whether it’s a first-time puppy groom for a young Yorkalier or a challenging cut for a wavy-haired Rough Collie, or even helping a skittish Cockapoo overcome her fear of the hairdryer – Paul and Hannah are up for the challenge and ready for action.

While behaviourist Paula is on hand to dish out some tough love, but maybe not in the way you’d expect! From a pup that’s chewing everything in sight, to an older dog who’s being bullied by his younger sister – Paula finds that it’s usually the human owners that need the most training!

Presented by Tessa Fleming, Peataí! is a light-hearted, fun and uplifting series. Tessa said: “The bond we have with our pets is so special. It’s always so beautiful seeing this on ‘Peataí!’ no matter if it’s a snake, a horse, or a turtle! I think it’s important to learn more about our pets so that we’re ready for any of the responsibilities or challenges that come with them and that the owners and their pets are content in every aspect of their special relationship!”

This series will show how we’re all enchanted by the bond with our animal friends. The support they offer us, the friendship and the companionship are a balm for the soul. Whether they’re big or small, cranky or carefree, one is never the same as another!

Peataí na tíre ar ais arís agus ar aghaidh linn chuig an phreabchlinic!

Conas gur féidir idirdhealú a dhéanamh idir ‘pug’ agus ‘jug’? Conas gur féidir stop a chur le coileán agus gach rud á chogaint aige? Cad faoi gheiceo uaigneach? Beidh na ceisteanna seo uilig á scrúdú ag láithreoir Tessa Fleming agus ag painéal  saineolaithe s’againne ar an sraith nua de chuid an Chiste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge, Peataí! Is léiriú de chuid Big Mountain Productions é Peataí! agus craolfar an chéad chlár Dé Luain 28ú Lúnasa ag 10:00in ar BBC2 NI agus ar RTÉ One le linn an Fhómhair.

Táimid go hiomlán gafa lenár bpeataí! Sa lá atá inniu ann, cuidíonn ár bpeataí linn tabhairt faoi dhúshláin móra an tsaoil…agus níl uathu ach grá agus cairdeas! Mar sin, is é Peataí! an clár ina bhuailimid le gach sórt peata (agus gach sórt úinéara!) ó achan chearn den tír agus iad ag lorg comhairle agus saineolais, agus iad ag iarraidh suilt a bhaint as ár gcairde clúmhacha!

I mBaile na hInse i gContae an Dúin, tá foireann saineolaithe ainmhíocha lonnaithe ag an phreab-chlinic –  Ellen Hegarty an tréidlia, Paul Ó Gallachóir an grúmaeir agus Paula Doohan an saineolaí iompraíochta madaidh. Tá an dream seo réidh chun achan cheist a bhaineann le cúram peataí a fhreagairt.

Ó mhadaidh spraíúil go phíotóin ríoga, ó mhucanna guinea go geiceo uaigneach, is beag ainmhí nach bhfuil againne ar Peataí!! Le linn na sraithe seo, tugann tréidlia Ellen comhairle leighis, moltaí do chúram na n-ainmhithe agus cuidiú do pheataí a bhfuil fadhbanna sláinte acu. Ó chat rabhar, go sean-turtar – níl aon lá mar an gcéanna dár dtréidlia!

Tá fios a ghnó ag grúmaeir Paul Ó Gallachóir agus a bhean céile Hannah faoi cad atá ag teastáil lenár madaí a choinneáil gleoite agus cuma ghlan agus snásta á chur ar na pooches uillig! Tá gach saghas dúshláin os a gcomhair, más é an chéad séisiúin grúmaeireachta do choileán óg nó gruaig fada, chasta an Choilí Garbh nó fiú amháin dul i ngleic le madaí a bhfuil eagla orthu roimh an triomadóir gruaige, beidh Paul agus Hannah réidh chun oibre!

Is dána gach madra i ndoras a dtí féin – ach cad faoi na húinéirí? Tá iompraí madaidh Paula ann le cuidiú a thabhairt do na madraí atá millte ag na húinéirí – i mbealach nach mbeifeá ag súil leis! Ó choileán a bhfuil gach rud timpeall air á chogaint aige go madra aosta atá ag streachailt lena dheirfiúr óg, is léir do Phaula go bhfuil níos mó oibre le déanamh aici leis na daoine ná leis na madaidh!

Curtha i láthair le Tessa Fleming, is sraith éadrom, spraoíúil agus spreagúil é Peataí! Arsa Tessa: “An caidreamh atá againn lenár bpeataí, tá sé chomh speisialta. Tá sé i gconaí galánta na hainmhithe éagsúla a fheiceáil ar Peataí! agus is cuma más nathair, capall nó turtar iad! Sílim go bhfuil sé tábhachtach níos mó a fhoghlaim faoinár bpeataí ionas go mbeidh muidinne réidh do na dualgaisí ar leith a thagann leo agus fosta, go mbeidh na húinéirí agus a gcairde sláinte agus sásta sa chaidreamh speisialta seo!”

Sa tsraith seo, feicimid go bhfuilimid ar fad faoi dhraíocht ár n-ainmhithe. An cuidiú a thugann siad dúinn, an cairdeas agus an comhluadar- is leigheas iad don anam na creatúirí seo. Bíodh siad beag nó mór, cantalach nó cairdiúil, is fíor le rá go bhfuil pearsantachtaí ar leith acu ar fad!
