Irish Language Broadcast Fund announces funding decisions for 2022

Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF) is delighted to announce its latest funding decisions for 2022. Funding was awarded across a wide genre of content with a total of 16 projects receiving funding. The aims of the ILBF are to promote the production and broadcast of quality Irish language content for an audience in Northern Ireland and beyond and to help grow the local Irish language production sector.

I bhFad ó Bhaile, from Below the Radar for TG4, will tell the story of Ukranian and fluent Irish speaker, Nadia Dobrianska, as she recalls the emotional journey she and her parents made from Kyiv to Cork as war ravaged their home country. The company’s magazine show I Lár an Aonaigh will also return for its 11th series on BBC.

Clean Slate Productions’ Saothar Baolach for TG4 will delve into the story behind a book which was commissioned by Michael Collins about the violence in Belfast in the aftermath of partition but which was deemed too controversial to publish.

Fine Point Films received funding to produce a feature length drama based on the real-life Irish speaking hip hop artists Kneecap and Zoogon will produce a murder mystery drama series Saor Sinn ó Olc for TG4 and BBC NI.

Macha Media’s Kayak Ó Thuaidh, for BBC NI and RTÉ will see two fearless presenters, Tessa Fleming and Irial Ó Ceallaigh, on the kayaking adventure of their live when they paddle the northern coast of Ireland from Tory Island to Rathlin.

Back for a second series is Strident Media’s Bog Amach, which will air on BBC NI and RTÉ. This factual entertainment series helps find the perfect country homes and rural lifestyles for families trying to escape the hassle of city living. Also returning to BBC NI and RTÉ is Big Mountain Productions’ Peataí where we celebrate the wonderful world of pets, bringing animals and owners from around Ireland to meet a resident team of experts in a specially created Pet Hub.

Imagine Media’s Scéalta na gCorn will return to TG4 for its second series with Gráinne McElwain continuing her journey around Ireland, visiting six new counties in her search to find the fascinating stories behind our nation’s GAA silverware.

Burkitt, a documentary film artfully articulating the fascinating life of Irish surgeon Denis Burkitt who had an uncanny ability to turn simple observations into major scientific discoveries will be produced by Little Ease Films.

The fun and light-hearted series Saolta’s Gaolta, looking at the trials and tribulations of life experiences all told through the dynamic of relationships and produced by Triplevision Productions Ltd will return to BBC NI for a second series.

Raidió Fáilte has also been awarded funding to continue their successful training and broadcasting scheme for the 11th year running.

Is mian leis an Chiste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge (CCG), Scáileán Thuaisceart Éireann a chinntí maoinithe is déanaí do 2022 a fhógairt. Bronnadh maoiniú ar 16 tionscadal ar fad ina bhfuil éagsúlacht bhreá seánraí teilifíse. Is é a chuireann an CCG roimhe, maoiniú a chur ar fáil le hábhar Gaeilge ar ardchaighdeán a léiriú agus a chraoladh do lucht féachana i dTuaisceart Éireann agus níos faide i gcéin agus lena chinntiú go gcuirfear fás faoin earnáil léiriúcháin Ghaeilge i dTuaisceart na hÉireann.

In I bhFad ó Bhaile, ó Below the Radar do TG4, insítear scéal Nadia Dobrianska, Úcránach agus Gaeilgeoir líofa, agus í ag cuimhneamh ar an aistear mothúchánach a rinne sí féin agus a cuid tuismitheoirí ó Chív go Corcaigh agus slad á dhéanamh ag an chogadh ar a dtír dhúchais. Tiocfaidh irischlár an chomhlachta, I Lár an Aonaigh, ar ais dá 11ú sraith ar an BBC fosta.

Déanfaidh Saothar Baolach, ó Clean Slate Productions do TG4, mionscagadh ar an scéal atá taobh thiar den leabhar a choimisiúnaigh Michael Collins faoin fhoréigean i mBéal Feiste i ndiaidh na críochdheighilte, ach a measadh go raibh sé róchonspóideach lena fhoilsiú.

Fuair Fine Point Films maoiniú chun dráma fada a dhéanamh bunaithe ar shaol na bhfíorealaíontóirí hip-hop Kneecap, agus déanfaidh Zoogon sraith dhráma dúrúin dúnmháraithe Saor Sinn ó Olc do TG4 agus do BBC TÉ.

Tiocfaidh Scéalta na gCorn le Imagine Media ar ais chuig TG4 don dara sraith agus Gráinne McElwain ag leanúint ar a turas thart ar Éirinn, tugann sí cuairt ar shé chontae nua agus í ar lorg na scéalta an-suimiúla atá taobh thiar de na coirn CLG s’againn.

Léireoidh Little Ease Films an scannán faisnéise, Burkitt, a thaispeánann saol suimiúil Denis Burkitt ar bhealach ealaíonta, máinlia Éireannach a raibh bua iontach aige fionnachtana móra eolaíochta a dhéanamh de rudaí simplí.
