The Northern Ireland Film & Television School is now accepting applications for Sept 2021
Date Posted: April 29, 2021
The Northern Ireland Film & Television School (NIFTS) is an award-winning film school based at SERC’s Bangor campus. The 1-year HNC in Creative Media Production is delivered over 2 full days a week (Wed & Thurs), allowing students to balance work and home life commitments as well as the potential to work in industry alongside their studies. It attracts a wide range of applicants from school leavers (aged 18+) to mature career changers and is delivered by a teaching team of industry professionals with access to a state-of-the-art broadcast studio and industry standard camera, lighting and sound equipment. Most applicants are eligible for full funding.
Units delivered at NIFTS include scriptwriting, cinematography camera, editing techniques, fiction production, documentary filmmaking and producing and directing skills. They are taught using a blended learning approach that includes lectures, studio workshops, industry speakers and production residentials. On completion of the HNC year, there is the potential to progress to the HND 2nd year where students can specialise in an area of production and undertake an industry placement.
NIFTS has recently partnered with Edinburgh Napier University to allow HND 2nd year graduates to gain direct entry into the 3rd year of their award-winning BA Hons in Television Production (coupled with the 2 years at NIFTS, this can result in a half-price degree from a UK Top10 University). Alternatively, graduates have gained direct entry into industry in junior roles such as Runner, Trainee Camera and Production Assistant or entered Northern Ireland Screen’s prestigious Aim High Scheme. This year saw NIFTS students win the highly coveted Best Scripted Category at the RTS NI Students Awards for the second year running. Graduates can now be found working in the film and television industry across the UK.
