NEW IRISH THRILLER TO SHOOT IN DUBLIN & BELFAST IN JANUARY
Award-winning actors Eddie Marsan (Back To Black, Happy Go Lucky) and Éanna Hardwicke (Lakelands, The Sixth Commandment) are set to lead the cast of NO ORDINARY HEIST, a gripping new Irish thriller inspired by the largest cash heist in UK and Irish history.
The film marks the first feature project for the newly launched Picture Locked Productions, in partnership with Damon Lane of Next Wednesday Films. The project is supported by Fís Éireann/ Screen Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen and US based Six Leaf Clover, with BBC Northern Ireland and RTÉ securing broadcast rights in Northern Ireland and Ireland, respectively. Wildcard Distribution have acquired UK and Irish rights, while Epic Pictures is managing global sales.
Directed by Colin McIvor (ZOO) and co-written by McIvor and debut screenwriter Aisling Corristine, the film will begin shooting in locations across Dublin and Belfast in January.
Inspired by true events from Belfast in December 2004, NO ORDINARY HEIST weaves a gripping fictional tale of two bank employees thrust into a chilling scheme. Forced to orchestrate a £26.5 million robbery to save their families, they are made to execute the crime without the gang ever stepping foot inside the bank.
Speaking about the film, director Colin McIvor said: “For Aisling and I, it was always the human story behind this truly extraordinary, complex and terrifying event that appealed, and the fact it all played out on my doorstep, only added to that cinematic appeal. And so, having been inspired, we set out to use this event as the basis for our fictionalised drama”.
McIvor, a multi-award-winning filmmaker, is best known for ZOO, starring Toby Jones and Dame Penelope Wilton, and has earned a reputation for crafting compelling stories rooted in remarkable real-life events. Aisling Corristine, an alumnus of BBC Voices, Series Mania, and The Writers Lab, makes her feature debut with NO ORDINARY HEIST.
Ruth Carter (Lies We Tell) and Johanna Hogan (Mary Shelley), the duo behind Picture Locked Productions, expressed their excitement about the project: “This is an exciting collaboration between incredibly talented professionals. After two decades of working together across various projects, forming Picture Locked felt like the natural next step. With No Ordinary Heist, we’re thrilled to work alongside Damon Lane and Colin McIvor as we bring this gripping story to life. With such a stellar cast, an enthralling script, and a talented director, we’re excited to begin filming in January 2025 — coinciding with the 20th anniversary of this remarkable event in December 2024”.
