Date Posted: November 30, 2022

Two projects made in Northern Ireland with funding from Northern Ireland Screen have been nominated for the prestigious Broadcast Awards. Derry Girls has been nominated for Best Comedy Programme and Odo has been nominated for Best Pre-School Programme. This year’s awards will be held on Wednesday 8th February at London’s JW Marriott Grosvenor House.

The final series of Lisa McGee’s Derry Girls aired on Channel 4 in April 2022 with 1.2 million tuning in to watch the finale featuring Chelsea Clinton. The series once again followed Erin, Orla, Clare, Michelle and James growing up in Northern Ireland. While there’s hope in the air that The Troubles may finally be over, the gang are only just getting started as they get closer to “adulthood”. The series was filmed on location in Northern Ireland and was produced by Hat Trick Productions.

Sixteen South and Letko’s Odo is a pre-school programme broadcast on Channel 5’s Milkshake that follows the adventures of an owl. Odo is a little owl with big ideas who tackles every challenge with positivity – no matter how big. He knows he can do anything he sets his mind it, because in the forest, as in life, you can do anything you set your mind to. The hand-drawn 2.5D animation was commissioned with support from the Young Audiences Content Fund, Northern Ireland Screen and the Polish Film Institute.

Long Story TV has been nominated for Emerging Indie of the Year. The production company headed-up by Belfast-born producer, Paul Marquess makes BBC drama Hope Street. Hope Street filmed on location in Donaghadee with support from Northern Ireland Screen.
