Beidh Aonach Amárach returns for second series on TG4 and BBC Two NI
Date Posted: January 21, 2020
The popular country agricultural show, Beidh Aonach Amárach, is back on our screens on TG4 on Thursday 23rd January at 8pm and BBC Two Northern Ireland on Monday 3rd February at 10pm. Witness the excitement, tension and fun as we join the competitors going for glory at Ireland’s country shows and fairs.
The new six-part series was made by independent production company, Crawford McCann Television, with support from Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund for BBC Gaeilge and TG4.
Throughout 2019 cameras have been capturing the stories of the people of all ages and backgrounds who vie for the top spots in a range of extraordinary competitions with contenders giving everything to be Best in Show; from cattle to cakes, sheep-shearing to flower-arranging, show-jumping to shiny cars, not forgetting the best vegetables, dogs, birds, clothes, art and craft.
With 140 agricultural shows across Ireland, this scene is hugely popular with competitors and spectators. Every year thousands of people spend months of preparation before travelling the country to take part in the contests every weekend.
With an army of volunteers who organise and judge these events, the pressure is on when several thousand people are going to descend on your village for the show. And choosing the top animal or display sometimes isn’t as straightforward as it seems.
Beidh Aonach Amárach takes viewers into the heart of the country show scene all over Ireland. In this series, all types of fairs are visited from the ancient ‘Ould Lammas Fair’ in Ballycastle, County Antrim to the large Ploughing Championships in County Carlow; the scenic–Clonmany Show in County Donegal and Puck Fair, County Kerry; and the traditional shows in Omagh, County Tyrone and Castlewellan Fair in County Down.
Beidh Aonach Amárach airs on TG4 on Thursday 23rd January at 8pm and BBC Two Northern Ireland on Monday 3rd February at 10pm.
Beidh spórt, spraoi agus teannas ann nuair a bhuailfimid bóthar le lucht na dtaispeántas feirme in Beidh Aonach Amárach a bhéas ar siúl ar an Déardaoin 23ú Eanáir ag 8i.n. ar TG4 agus ar BBC Two Northern Ireland, Dé Luain 3ú Feabhra ag 10i.n.

I rith 2019, chaith ceamaraí tamall in éineacht leo, ar a gcuid feirmeacha agus ina gcuid tithe. Seo na daoine a bheas in iomaíocht do na príomhdhuaiseanna agus caitheann siad dua leis an iarracht – is cuma mura mbeidh acu ach pocaide gabhair – beidh siad i lár an aonaigh!
Sraith 6 chlár leathuair a’chloig atá ann a thugann léargas ar an domhan spéisiúil seo. Gach bliain bíonn 140 seó nó taispeántas feirme sa tír agus tarraingíonn siad na mílte daoine chucu , idir lucht féachana agus iomaitheoirí. Ar feadh roinnt mhaith míonna roimh an lá, bíonn na hiomaitheoirí éagsúla ag réiteach – ag traenáil, ag bearradh, ag sciúradh, ag péinteáil, ag cniotáil, ag bácáil agus ag réiteach a gcuid ainmhithe luachmhara don lá mór.
Bíonn slua mór taobh thiar den iarracht- maoir, moltóirí, coistí deonacha agus slua cúntóirí i ngach baile a mbíonn taispeántas ann. Bíonn píosa craic ag daoine, cinnte- ach bíonn obair mhór ar siúl taobh thiar de na seastáin tarraingteacha. Agus ní haon jab éasca é an buaiteoir a roghnú as ainmhithe den chéad ghrád. Bíonn tóir mhór ar an ribín dearg sin!
Sa tsraith seo feicfear taispeántas den uile chineál: na cinn is mó – an ‘Ould Lammas Fair’ i mBaile an Chaistil agus an CraobhChomórtas Treabhaidh i gCo Cheatharlaigh; na cinn ghleoite –Seó Talmhaíochta Chluain Maine i gCo Dhún Na nGall agus Aonach an Phoic i gCill Orglain, Co Chiarraí agus na cinn thraidisiúnta– An Ómaigh, Co Thír Eoghain agus Caislean Uidhilín, Co an Dúin.
