Adapt to Film, a new training programme for professional writers
Date Posted: October 21, 2016
With adaptions topping the UK box office, Broadway Cinema in Nottingham is partnering with experienced script and talent development executives Anna Seifert-Speck and Caroline Cooper Charles to deliver Adapt to Film, a new training programme for UK-based professional writers interested in adapting source material for the screen.
Starting in November, this five-month training programme will support ten writers or writer/directors to develop their craft so they can turn novels, short stories, films, plays, biographies, blogs, journalistic articles and other factual writing into market-ready screenplays. Producers are invited to apply alongside writers where they are working together on an adaptation project.
Participating writers will attend three two-day residential workshops, with additional mentoring in between. They will be guided through an analysis of their source material to find the screen story, while drawing on the expertise of sales and distribution specialists, producers, other writers working in adaptation and legal professionals. Adapt to Film will culminate in the opportunity for the writers to pitch their project to financiers.
Applicants should have demonstrable credits / publications in relevant disciplines (film, literature, theatre, journalism, biography). They should also have a proven basic knowledge of screenwriting and will be required to provide a screenwriting sample as part of the application process.
Adapt to Film is funded with support from Creative Skillset, BFI Film Forever and the National Lottery.
- Application deadline to be eligible for Early Bird Producer Fee: Friday 28 October 2016 at 5pm
