BELFAST leads way in Golden Globes nominations

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has announced the nominees for the 79th Annual Golden Globe Awards from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. We are delighted to see Belfast from our Honorary President Sir Kenneth Branagh leading the way on the film side with seven nominations.
Belfast is a poignant story of love, laughter and loss in one boy’s childhood, amid the social and political tumult of the late 1960s. It stars Caitríona Balfe, Judi Dench, Jamie Dornan, Ciarán Hinds and introduces 10-year-old Jude Hill.
Belfast has been nominated in the following categories:
- Best Motion Picture – Drama
- Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture – Catriona Balfe
- Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture – Jamie Dornan, Ciarán Hinds
- Best Director – Motion Picture – Kenneth Branagh
- Best Screenplay – Motion Picture – Kenneth Branagh
- Best Original Song – Motion Picture – “Down to Joy”, Van Morrison
Richard Williams, Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Screen, said; “Having watched the local audience’s enthralled response to Belfast at the Belfast Film Festival, I am not in the slightest surprised that Sir Kenneth Branagh’s most personal film ever has picked up 7 nominations at the Golden Globes.
