Date Posted: February 20, 2025
NVTV is excited to announce the launch of A Wee Drapp an’ a Yarn, a unique new series that brings the rich history and culture of Ulster-Scots to life. Premiering at 8pm on Tuesday 25th February, the four-episode series offers an in-depth exploration of Ulster-Scots language and heritage, seen through the lens of weaver poetry, and presented in a relaxed, informal setting that mirrors the camaraderie of a night out with friends.
Hosted by Frank Ferguson and funded by Northern Ireland Screen’s Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund, A Wee Drapp an’ a Yarn takes place in the iconic John Hewitt Bar in Belfast. The series takes a comprehensive look at Ulster-Scots, examining the history, culture, language, and challenges facing the community today. Drawing on weaver poetry as a historical reference, each episode explores these themes through conversation, offering a unique and engaging way of connecting with the past while envisioning the future of Ulster-Scots in modern society.
“This series is an opportunity to showcase the depth and diversity of the Ulster-Scots tradition in a way that feels accessible and engaging for everyone,” said producer Dean Hagan. “Rather than a formal interview setting, we wanted to capture the energy and spontaneity of a genuine conversation—just like you’d hear if you were in the pub with a group of friends.”
A Wee Drapp an’ a Yarn is a great addition to NVTV’s programming line-up, offering viewers an accessible and entertaining window into a pivotal part of Northern Ireland’s heritage.
