Five Fables App wins a Torc Award

The Seamus Heaney: Five Fables app made by Flickerpix has won a Torc award at the Celtic Media Festival for best app. The Celtic Media Festival is an annual 3 day event that promotes the languages and cultures of the Celtic Nations and Regions in media and this year was held in Inverness.
The app was produced alongside the animated TV series Five Fables. The series was based on Five medieval Scots fables written by 15th Century Scottish poet Robert Henryson, translated by Seamus Heaney, that were brought into the 21st century as an enchanting animated tales for BBC Two Northern Ireland. The app, like the original animated series, was narrated by legendary comedian Billy Connolly.
The app allows readers to move seamlessly from Robert Henryson’s original text to Seamus Heaney’s translation, with clips from leading experts to guide readers through the text. The app also allows users to explore detailed notes that illuminate the translation process and give context to the language.
Seamus Heaney: Five Fables app and the Five Fables animated series were both funded by Northern Ireland Screen’s Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund.
