New northern branch of Fíbín Media – Fíbín Films NI – selected to pitch new drama series at Series Mania Festival in Lille

It has been a bold and ambitious start to 2025 for Fíbín Media, bringing an IFTA nomination, opening a new branch of the Fíbín family in Northern Ireland and a Series Mania shortlisting for the new company.

Fíbín Media is going from strength to strength and as part of the expansion of the company, it has launched a sister company in Northern Ireland – Fíbín Films NI. Based on the Antrim Coast, the NI base is situated in the Cushendall Innovation Centre, a former police station-turned digital hub designed to attract new businesses to the area. Fíbín Films NI is looking to the future with scale and ambition with two drama series in the pipeline for the company.

The first drama is INVISIBLE, a six-part thriller set in a coastal town in Northern Ireland being developed by Fíbín Films NI, with support from Northern Ireland Screen and BBC NI. Today (21 Feb), we are pleased to announce that it has been selected to pitch at the prestigious Series Mania Festival in Lille France at the end of March. INVISIBLE is one of only 16 projects selected out of over 400 entries to this festival, with the winning project taking away a €50,000 prize.

Separately, following on from the huge success of CRÁ, Fíbín’s thrilling six-part Irish-language crime drama that premiered on TG4, BBC One Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer in 2024, it went on to air on BBC Four in January 2025. This marked the first-ever Irish Language drama to be broadcast on a UK network TV channel. CRÁ was nominated in the ‘Best Drama’ category for the Irish Film and TV Awards (IFTA) in February. Development is underway for a second series which promises to thrill and excite both regional and national audiences.

The continued success of Fíbín Media was recognised at the Irish Times Business Awards at the Mansion House in Dublin last night (Thursday 20 February) where they were nominated in the Local Business category. As part of the business growth and expansion into Northern Ireland, Fíbín Media have been awarded Acumen funding from Intertrade Ireland to hire a locally based producer. From February 2025 Méabh Nic Alastair will be employed on a part-time basis at the Cushendall base, driving development for TV projects across the region and collaborating with writers and directors in the area.

Bernie Hoban Co-CEO of Fíbín Films NI said:

“It has been a brilliant start to the new year for Fíbín and the news today that we will be pitching at Series Mania in Lille is a fantastic boost for the company. We are thrilled to be able to launch our sister company in the north – Fíbín Films NI. There is a vibrant creative energy across the island of Ireland and we are excited for this new opportunity to develop the business on the northern coast.”

Méabh Nic Alastair Producer at Fíbín Films NI said:

“I am thrilled to take up a position as producer in the northern office of Fíbín Films NI.  It is a great time to come into the company following the recent success of CRÁ and with a number of exciting projects on the horizon. Being able to be situated in the Cushendall Innovation Centre is a real plus and I am looking forward to growing the team in the north over the course of the months ahead.”
