CRÁ, a thrilling six-part Irish-language crime drama, is set to make waves when it premieres on November 11th on TG4 and on the TG4 Player / TG4.ie & BBC One Northern Ireland & BBC iPlayer
Produced by Fíbín Media in collaboration with Zoogon Ltd, this series promises a gripping story of murder, secrets, and justice in a close-knit Irish village, captivating audiences from the first episode.
In a remote village, a mystery begins to unfold when the body of a local woman is discovered buried in a bog.
Starring Dónall Ó Héalai (Monster, Foscadh), Alex Murphy (The Young Offenders) and newcomer Hannah Brady, this new six-part series was filmed on location in County Donegal.
Crá is produced by Fíbín Media and Zoogon Ltd for BBC Gaeilge and TG4 with support from Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund, Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Meán, Gréasán na Meán Skillnet and distributors About Premium Content (APC).
A murder investigation begins when Garda Barry Roche (Alex Murphy) finds a body buried in the bog. In the most personal of cases, Garda Conall Ó Súilleabháin (Dónall Ó Héalai) discovers it is his mother, Sabine, who has been missing for 15 years.
Conall is forbidden from working on the case, but is drawn into the investigation by a determined young journalist Ciara-Kate (Hannah Brady), who is using her true-crime podcast to expose the village’s deepest secrets.
The power of modern media is revealed as every twist and turn of the investigation is broadcast to a growing audience through Ciara-Kate’s podcast.
As Conall and Ciara-Kate unravel the truth, they must confront a close-knit community bound by silence and its own moral codes. Will truth prevail or do some secrets stay buried forever?
Supporting Dónall, Alex and Hannah are a talented ensemble including Barry McGovern (Obituary), Róisín Murphy (Vikings), Tara Breathnach (Borderline, Dune2), Caoimhe Farren (The Woman in the Wall), and Alan Mahon (King Frankie).
The series was written by Doireann Ní Chorragáin and Richie Conroy (Fran the Man), directed by award-winning filmmaker Philip Doherty (Redemption of a Rogue), and produced by Ciarán Charles for Fíbín Media.
The Executive Producers are Darach Ó Tuairisg for Fíbín Media, Áine Walsh for Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund, Karen Kirby for BBC Northern Ireland and Máire Ní Chonláin for TG4.
Darach Ó Tuairisg, Executive Producer for Fíbín Media, shared his thoughts on the series: “CRÁ is a unique and thrilling exploration of justice, secrets, and community, set against the striking backdrop of Donegal. From the beginning, we knew we had something special with this story, and working with such a talented cast and crew has only elevated it further. The series brings together the richness of Irish-language storytelling with a modern, suspenseful narrative that we believe will captivate viewers. We’re proud to have collaborated with TG4, BBC Northern Ireland, and all our partners to bring this compelling drama to life, and we’re confident it will resonate not just in Ireland, but far beyond.”
Máire Ní Chonláin, Executive Producer and Commissioning Editor for TG4, shared her enthusiasm for the project: “CRÁ is a powerful and evocative drama that captures the essence of the rugged northwest of Ireland, both in its landscape and in its storytelling. This series brings together a talented team of writers, actors, and directors to tell a gripping tale of mystery and justice, while also exploring the modern role of media in uncovering truth. We are proud to support a production that showcases not only the beauty of the Irish language but also its relevance and power in contemporary storytelling. Tarraingeoidh CRÁ, sraith sé chlár drámaíochta Gaeilge faoi scéal coiriúlachta, aird mhór nuair a chraolfar den chéad uair é ar TG4 agus ar Sheinnteoir TG4 ar an 11 Samhain & BBC iPlayer agus BBC One Northern Ireland.
Is iomaí ceist le cur agus ní diamhair le míniú i gceantar iargúlta in iarthuaisceart na hÉireann ar CRÁ, agus an Garda Conall Ó Súilleabháin (Dónall Ó Héalaí, Monster, Foscadh) ag iarraidh an ceart agus an chóir a thabhairt i gcrích i gcás nach bhféadfadh a bheith níos pearsanta aige — dúnmharú a mháthar, Sabine. Tagann Garda Barry Roche (Alex Murphy) ar chorp Sabine cúig bliana déag i ndiaidh di dul ar iarraidh.
Déanadh an scannánú i gceantar Ghaoth Dobhair, Dún na nGall. Comhoibriú trasteorann agus léiriúchán de chuid Meangadh Fíbín i gcomhar le Zoogon Ltd NI, is ea CRÁ. Rinne BBC Gaeilge agus TG4 CRÁ a choimisiúnú agus chuidigh Fís Éireann, Coimisiún na Meán agus Ciste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge Scáileáin Thuaisceart Éireann go fial leis. Is iad About Premium Content (APC) na dáileoirí.
Tá podchraoladh faoi choireanna ag an iriseoir seo, Ciara-Kate (Hannah Brady) agus cuid de na scéalta is rúnda ar an bhaile á bhfoilsiú aici. De réir mar a thagann fírinne an scéil chun solais, caitheann sí féin agus Conall déileáil le pobal na háite ar mór i gceist an tost sa chóras moráltachta acu.
Bí ag súil le taibhithe láidre ó chompántas cumasach aisteoirí, ina measc Barry McGovern (Obituary), Róisín Murphy (Vikings), Tara Bhreathnach (Borderline, Dune: Part Two), Caoimhe Farren (The Woman in the Wall), agus Alan Mahon (King Frankie).
Doireann Ní Chorragáin agus Richie Conroy (Fran the Man) a scríobh an tsraith, Philip Doherty (Redemption of a Rogue) an stiúrthóir agus Ciarán Charles a léirigh.
Tá Darach Ó Tuairisg (Meangadh Fíbín), Áine Walsh (Ciste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge Scáileán Thuaisceart Éireann), Karen Kirby (BBC Gaeilge) agus Máire Ní Chonláin (TG4) ar na Léiritheoirí Feidhmiúcháin.
Thug Darach Ó Tuairisg, Léiritheoir Feidhmiúcháin thar ceann Meangadh Fíbín Media, a thuairimí féin faoin tsraith: “Is sraith é CRÁ ina ndéantar cíoradh faoi leith, trí scéal scéine, ar an gceart, ar an gcóir, ar rúndacht agus ar na modhanna ina n-oibríonn pobal, agus sin uilig leis an taobh tíre sceirdiúil i dTír Chonaill sa timpeall. Tuigeadh dúinn ón tús go raibh ábhar faoi leith againn leis an scéal seo agus is é an chaoi ar fearr uilig é mar gheall ar aisteoirí cumasacha agus dream iontach scannánaíochta a theacht isteach ann. Tá saibhreas scéalaíocht na Gaeilge ina ghné amháin den tsraith agus sin fite le ríomh nua-aimseartha ar shnáithe an scéil a choinníonn daoine in amhras ionas gurb é an chaoi ar mó spéis an lucht féachana ann ar feadh an ama. Ábhar mórtais againn gur oibríodh i gcomhar le TG4, le BBC Thuaisceart Éireann agus leis na páirtithe ar fad leis an dráma ríshuimiúil seo a thabhairt chun fíre. Tá muid cinnte go dtiocfaidh sé i bhfeidhm ar dhaoine, ní hamháin in Éirinn ach i bhfad ó bhaile.”
Chuir Máire Ní Chonláin, Léiritheoir Feidhmiúcháin agus Eagarthóir Coimisiúnaithe TG4 in iúl chomh tógtha agus atá sí féin leis an togra: “Is dráma láidir múscailteach é CRÁ ina gcuirtear dlúth agus inneach iarthuaisceart na hÉireann in iúl, maidir leis an taobh tíre agus leis an scéalaíocht. Tháinig meitheal de dhaoine sárchumasacha le chéile don tsraith seo, scríbhneoirí, aisteoirí agus stiúrthóirí, i mbun scéal diamhrach faoina bhfuil ceart nó cóir a chur i láthair agus cíoradh á dhéanamh freisin ar an ról atá le meáin chumarsáide na linne seo i ndáil le foilsiú na fírinne. Is cúis mhór bróid againne an bhaint a bhí againn le togra léiriúcháin ina gcuirtear i láthair, ní hamháin áilleacht theanga na Gaeilge ach an tábhacht agus an mianach atá inti maidir le scéalaíocht na linne seo. Tá muid cinnte dearfa go mbeidh an treise agus an tocht a bhaineann le CRÁ ina tharraingt ag an lucht féachana. Is teist an togra iontach seo ar an mbonn daingean atá faoin gcomhar trasteorann idir TG4 agus BBC Thuaisceart Éireann.”
