Tourism and golf, Ulster-Scots poetry, American pioneers, drum majors and bedtime stories for children are among the diverse mix of digital projects recently supported by Northern Ireland Screen’s Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund.

With thousands of golf fans heading to Portrush for the return of The Open this July, NPE Media will be producing a series of Ulster-Scots Golf Itineraries for Tourism Northern Ireland. The short films will showcase Northern Ireland’s world-renowned golf courses alongside the sport’s Ulster-Scots connections and nearby Ulster-Scots destinations and visitor attractions.

The rich seam of Ulster-Scots poetry will be reflected in two digital projects: The Woven Word series 2 and Rhymes of Rebellion. Produced by Virtual Visit and presented by Lolly Spence – fresh from fronting BBC NI TV series Oul Treasures, The Woven Word series 2 will immerse viewers in a 360-degree reinterpretation of some of the genre’s most important works. While Negative Waves will reveal how four Ulster-Scots poets reacted to the 1798 Irish Rebellion in its multimedia series Rhymes of Rebellion.

Animation studio Educational Voice is set to spotlight the inspiring lives of key Americans with Ulster-Scots roots in its interactive series Echoes of Ulster aimed at primary school children both here and around the world. And Triplevision will teach viewers How Tae Drum Major with local exponents sharing their skills and inspiring a new generation of mace masters. While weans will be soothed to sleep with A Wheen O’ Bedtime Stories, as Ulster-Scots writers compile a brand-new collection of nursery tales, also from the Triplevision team.

“Our annual Digital Call is always hotly contested”, said USBF Executive Heidi McAlpin. “This year’s is no exception and we are delighted to support such a fantastic array of online projects and can’t wait to share them with everyone as soon as they are made.”
