Feast your ears on a monthly yarn with new Ulster-Scots podcast ‘Thran’

Thran – The Ulster-Scots Podcast invites listeners on a year-long journey into Ulster-Scots culture through 12 insightful and seasonal episodes. Led by Liam Logan and the Negative Waves team, and with funding from Northern Ireland Screen’s Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund, the podcast travels throughout Northern Ireland engaging with authors, poets and enthusiasts. From renowned Ulster-Scots poets like Charlie Gillen to newcomers like university student Adelaide Mensah from Ghana, each interview offers a diverse perspective on Ulster-Scots language, heritage and culture.
“We aimed for an engaging mix of entertainment and education, addressing important themes with a light-hearted touch,” says Tristan Crowe of Negative Waves.
“What better word encompasses a certain Ulster-Scots ethos than Thran?” added Ulster-Scots Broadcast Fund Executive Heidi McAlpin. “Once again, Tristan, Liam and the team have put together a series of podcasts that will appeal to anyone keen to explore Ulster-Scots stories and culture. Make a wee cup of tea and have a listen.”
Created in collaboration with the Somme Association and fUSe FM in Ballymoney, each monthly episode will also feature poetry, conversation and an Ulster-Scots word of the podcast. Thran will be broadcast monthly from Tuesday 5 March throughout the Ballymoney area on fUSe FM on 107.5 FM and online via the TuneIn app. Listeners can also find the podcast on Spotify and keep up to date with each new episode on X, Instagram and Facebook.
