Date Posted: October 3, 2023
On Friday, Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF) celebrated the graduation of nine talented individuals who have completed various ILBF training schemes, furthering their skills and contributing to the enrichment of Irish language broadcasting and content creation.
The ILBF was set up in 2004 to promote the production and broadcast of quality Irish language content for an audience in Northern Ireland and beyond and to help grow the Irish language production sector in Northern Ireland, it has been instrumental in providing training opportunities to nurture talent in the field. This latest cohort of ILBF graduates showcases the organisation’s commitment to fostering excellence within the Irish language independent production sector.
This year, nine trainees graduated across three year-long courses: 6 on the New Entrants 2022-23 scheme; one on the Trainee Producer scheme; two on the Trainee Assistant Producer scheme.
The nine trainees have undergone comprehensive training in areas such as television production, radio production and multimedia content creation. The ILBF training schemes have equipped them with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to succeed in the dynamic world of Irish language media.
At the graduation ceremony, held on Friday 29th September at Ormeau Baths several clips from programmes produced by the trainees were screened as part of the ceremony to an audience which included representatives from various television production companies, BBC Northern Ireland, NVTV, Raidió Fáilte and TG4.
“We are immensely proud of the achievements of our nine graduates. They have demonstrated exceptional talent, dedication, and a genuine passion for promoting the Irish language through various forms of media,” said Áine Walsh, Head of the Irish Language Broadcast Fund. “The ILBF remains committed to nurturing talent and providing opportunities for those interested in contributing to the vibrant world of Irish language content creation.”
ILBF Trainee Bríd McGee said, “I had an amazing year on the ILBF Training scheme. I learnt so much from the companies I was on placement with and the training courses we did as part of the scheme. I learnt from experts in the industry and am very thankful that I got this opportunity to work with them throughout the year. It is very clear to me that the Irish tv and film industry is a very special one to work in.”

TALLANN ÚRNUA D’EARNÁIL LÉIRIÚCHÁIN FÍSE GHAEILGE Á CEILIÚRADH AG BRONNADH
Ar an Aoine bhí ócáid ag an Chiste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge (CCG) de chuid Scáileáin Thuaisceart Éireann le ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar naoi oiliúnaí a ghlac páirt i scéimeanna oiliúna i mbliana agus a mbeadh mar thallann úrnua d’earnáil léiriúcháin físe Ghaeilge.
Bunaíodh an CCG sa bhliain 2004 le hábhar físe i nGaeilge ar ardchaighdeán a mhaoiniú agus an earnáil léiriúcháin neamhspléach Ghaeilge i dTuaisceart Éireann a chothú. Cuireann an CCG deiseanna oiliúna éagsúla ar fáil do chainteoirí Gaeilge atá ag obair san earnáil léiriúcháin neamhspleách i dTuaisceart Éireann nó ar mian leo dul ag obair inti.
I mbliana, chríochnaigh naoi oiliúnaí scéimeanna bliana i gceithre réimse éagsúla: seisear oiliúnaithe ar an Scéim d’Iontrálaithe Nua 2022-23; duine amháin ar an Scéim Léiritheoirí faoi Oiliúint agus beirt ar an Scéim do Léiritheoirí Cúnta faoi Oiliúint. I measc an traenáil seo, fuair siad taithí nua i léiriúcháin físe, léiriúcháin raidió agus scileanna le hábhar ilmheánach a fhorbairt. Cuideoidh na scileanna praiticiúil seo leis na hoiliúnaí agus iad réidh le bheith ag obair san earnáil léiriúcháin Ghaeilge as seo amach.
Taispeánadh roinnt gearrscannán a léirigh agus a scannánaigh na hoiliúnaithe mar chuid den searmanas ag Ormeau Baths ar an Aoine 29ú Meán Fómhair. Bhí ionadaithe i láthair ó chuideachtaí éagsúla léiriúcháin teilifíse, ón BBC, NvTv, Raidió Fáilte agus ó TG4.
“Tá muid an-bhrodúil ar fad as na hoiliúnaí uilig i mbliana. Léirigh siad an-spéis, díograis agus paisean an Ghaeilge a chur chun cinn sna meáin i ndóigheanna éagsúla.” a dúirt Áine Walsh, Ceannasaí an CCG. “Tá an CCG tiomanta deiseanna a thabhairt dóibh siúd atá suim acu a bheith páirteach san earnáil teilifíse Ghaeilge atá ag dul ó neart go neart gach bliain.”
Dúirt Oiliúnaí Bríd McGee “Bhí bliain den chéad scoth caite agam ar an scéim ILBF. Idir na comhlachtaí a bhí mé lonnaithe leis agus na cúrsaí a rinne mé mar pháirt den scéim, d’fhoghlaim mé morán ó saineolaithe na hearnála seo agus tá mé an-bhuíoch ar fad go bhfuair mé na deiseanna a bheith ag obair leo le linn na bliana seo. Is léir dom anois gurb earnáil iontach agus speisialta é an earnáil teilifíse agus scannáin na hÉireann.”
Bhronn Róise Ní Bhaoill, Cathaoirleach ar Choiste Infheistíochta an CCG, teastais ar na hOiliúnaithe Nua Anna Ledgewood, Bríd McGee, Claire Murphy, Katie Neeson, Shea Dougan Toal agus Tamara Hamill, ar na Léiritheoirí Cúnta faoi oiliúint Aodhán Ó Baoill agus Caitlín Ailbhe Campbell agus ar Léiritheoir Faoi Oiliúint Aoife Nic Con Midhe le haitheantas a thabhairt ar an méid atá bainte amach acu.
Mar chuid den Scéim d’Iontrálaithe Nua a thosaigh ag tús mí Mheán Fómhair tá an CCG ag tacú le seisear oiliúnaí eile mar léiritheoirí, léiritheoirí cúnta agus fís iriseoirí faoi oiliúint i mbliana. Tá na hoiliúnaithe nua ag freastal ar dhianchúrsa traenála coicíse le Macha Media i mBéal Feirste faoi láthair agus thosaigh siad ar socrúchán ag comhlachtaí léiriúcháin agus ag NvTv cheana féin.
Thosaigh Aisling Bell, Dubhaltach Mac Conmidhe, Eamonn Higgins, Fionnuala Conlon, Órnaith Ní Fhearghail agus Rachel Black ar Scéim na hIontrálaithe Nua i mbliana. Chomh maith le sin, tá Storm Eaton-Kilgallen ar socrúchán leis an BBC agus Raidió Fáilte mar chuid de Scéim na Léiritheoirí Raidió faoi Óiliúnt.
