Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive has teamed up with the Ulster Folk Museum and The Strand Arts Centre to celebrate Ulster’s cinematic history with the ‘Picture House Past Day’.
Members of the public are invited to the Gilford Picture House in the grounds of the Folk Museum to watch early Northern Ireland film dating back as far as 1898 on Saturday 13th May.
Bronagh McAtasney, Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive’s Access & Outreach will be on hand to share details about Northern Ireland Screen’s Digital Film Archive.
Attendees can also learn about the history of picture houses in Northern Ireland with talks from the Heritage Officer of the Strand Arts Centre in Belfast (now NI’s only surviving operational 1930s picture house) and the Ulster Folk Museum’s Senior Curator of History.
The family friendly event will offer the opportunity to make a zoetrope or explore early photography by creating cyanotypes.
This is a full day event included within your general admission ticket, book via https://www.ulsterfolkmuseum.org/booking-arrival or at the admission kiosk on the day.
Supported by Northern Ireland Screen and the Strand’s unique heritage project The Lasting Picture house, made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
