‘Action’ for Cinemagic On The Pulse March Festival

The 5th Cinemagic ON THE PULSE Festival, celebrating the short film genre, funded by the Department for Communities through Northern Ireland Screen, proudly presents a programme of unmissable films for families, schools, young adults and young filmmakers, as well as jury programme and a Talent Lab Masterclass series for aspiring film, television and media creators supported by Belfast Harbour through the Arts & Business NI Investment Programme.
The film programme offers a cinematic window to the world presenting a diverse range of storytelling, celebrating universal stories of youth and youth perspectives. Festival themes will include stories of inclusivity, the world today, young protagonists overcoming challenges, and stories of celebration and heart-warming tales.
Workshop highlights hosted by successful NI and ROI film talent include writing, producing, music video, locations, aerial photography, writing, casting, commissioning, presenting and production design. There will be a live audience recording of the Girls on Film Podcast with special actress Sophia Myles, best known for Doctor Who, Spooks, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and Outlander, as well as writers and performers Sally Phillips and Ronni Ancona. The Girls on Film Podcast is a nominee for for the Best Live Podcast at the British Podcast Awards.
Joan Burney Keatings MBE, Cinemagic CEO said: “Cinemagic ON THE PULSE is designed to motivate, educate, and inspire young people from all backgrounds as we celebrate and promote the shorts genre. With funding support from the Department for Communities through Northern Ireland Screen, the programme offers a contemporary season of the very best international short films for young audiences as well as showcasing shorts made by local filmmakers.
“ON THE PULSE also illustrates the importance of short filmmaking and short form content in the development of practical skills and in the development of sustainable careers in the creative industries and I encourage young creators to get involved in the vast array of opportunities on offer this March”.
Get involved with teen and family film screenings in Queen’s Film Theatre, Ulster Museum and Odeon Cinemas Classic family favourites include The Gruffalo and Gruffalo’s Child, The Smeds and The Smoos, The Highway Rat & Room on The Broom! ON THE PULSE will also visit towns around Northern Ireland with Cinemagic’s Young Audiences Supporting Foodbanks Initiative. The ticket price for this is replaced by foodbank donations on the day. The Tiny Voyage (12th March Ulster Museum)
A collection of short animations designed to appeal to young children.
The Smortleybacks Come Back! (12th March Ulster Museum)
A collection of new international short animations designed to entertain young audiences.
Yuku And The Himalayan Flower (19th March Queen’s Film Theatre)
A little mouse who lives with her family in the basement of a castle decides to embark on a quest to find the legendary Himalayan flower!
