Community Relations Council Media Grant Awards Film Launch
Date Posted: September 21, 2022
The Community Relations Council is hosting a launch event for two new films supported through the Media Grants Scheme delivered this year in partnership with Northern Ireland Screen. The launch takes place on Tuesday 27th September from 10am – 1pm at Queen’s Film Theatre.
Emerging film makers Diana Cheung and Ross McClean will introduce their films created. Each film provides an insight into the diversity of communities that call Northern Ireland their home.
Diana Cheung’s film Northern Chirish is a short documentary film about the Chinese-Irish (Chirish) community from the perspective of the 2nd generation and explores the themes of culture and identity, sense of belonging, racism and immigration.
Ross McClean has produced a short film which follows the friendship of a group of young amateur boxers from distinct cultural backgrounds living in East Belfast. The film follows the young people as they prepare for an upcoming fight and gives witness to how sport can break down cultural differences and barriers.
The event will give the opportunity to see the completed films, to hear from the film makers and for a short Q&A session about the issues their films give voice to.
Christine Morrow, New and Emerging Talent Executive at Northern Ireland Screen and Martin McDonald MBE, Chair of the Community Relations Council will also join the event launch.
