Featuristic Films joins forces with James Glancy and Marty Stalker to launch ‘Another World’

Date Posted: July 1, 2022

Featuristic Films, the London-based production company led by producers Julien Loeffler, James Kermack and James Barton-Steel, and filmmakers James Glancy & Marty Stalker are joining forces to launch Another World, a social impact production outfit with the support of Northern Ireland Screen, which aims to expose global issues that can and will affect all of our lives, giving voices to the unheard and unseen.

James Glancy explains “Afghanistan showed us we could embed a small crew of filmmakers into remote and dangerous locations and capture rich stories with high end cinematic production values. We now want to take this another step further, by exposing global issues that can affect all our lives, yet are often overlooked because of their remoteness or danger involved in operating in those locations.”

Forthcoming feature documentary “Afghanistan” is a topical and cinematic story which chronicles Glancy’s journey, accompanied by co-director Stalker, as he returns to Afghanistan, just as U.S. troops pull out of the country amid a Taliban take over. The team will build on this momentum with ‘Another World’ as they focus on unscripted environmental and current affairs productions.

Featuristic Head of Development James Kermack says “The team are excited to take our partnership with Glancy to this next level. Not only do we already have many fantastic projects to bring to market, but having the opportunity to shine a very cinematic light on social impact issues is a real privilege and we intend on being as bold and innovative in this space as we are with features. Glancy has a knack for not just presenting a subject, but embedding within the people, the terrain, the society and allowing it to speak for itself, giving us a fresh, previously unheard perspective.”

Featuristic Head of TV, Meredith Coral comments: “We’re really excited to be launching this new venture. The combination of James Glancy’s skill working in remote and dangerous locations, alongside Featuristic’s cinematic production values, promises to deliver a slate of really timely and compelling, previously untold stories, which will appeal to broad audiences, globally. This is a diverse slate, touching on global issues all with a social purpose, including the environment, politics and crime… issues that broadcast and streaming platforms are in a unique position to bring to audiences at a time where it couldn’t be more important or relevant.”

The slate currently in development includes feature documentaries and series and is backed by Northern Ireland Screen. The team will begin filming a new environmental feature documentary in North Africa from this July.

Richard Williams, Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Screen, says: “We are delighted to support the launch of Another World, it is great to see well established filmmakers like Featuristic and James Glancy teaming up with local man Marty Stalker. The time is perfect right now to bring social issues to the fore and we are very excited to see the range of fantastic projects that will result from this collaboration.”

Featuristic Films’ non scripted slate includes “Laurent Garnier: Off the Record,” which had its world premiere at CPH:DOX followed by selections at Edinburgh, IDFA and Karlovy Vary, “Afghanistan” directed by James Glancy and Marty Stalker produced in association with Northern Ireland Screen, WestEnd Films and Cinephil and in Cannes this year, Featuristic Films announced “Bardot” an exclusive feature documentary about the international icon Brigitte Bardot.

James Glancy formerly served in the Royal Marines. Since leaving he has made content with National Geographic and the Discovery Channel as a filmmaker and conservationist. James is also a Sony Professional Ambassador. “Afghanistan” is his debut feature as a Director and will be released later this year.

Marty Stalker is a film and television director whose debut feature documentary “Hostage to the Devil,” which was supported by Screen Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen, was released on Netflix worldwide in 2017. He is also a former Royal Marines Commando.
