RTS NI announces shortlist for this year’s Student Television Awards

The Royal Television Society Northern Ireland (RTS NI) is delighted to announce the nominations for this year’s Student Television Awards, supported by Northern Ireland Screen and the Department for Communities. Now in its 9th year, the awards ceremony will be hosted by UTV journalist Stewart Robson on Thursday 31st March at 7pm in the Black Box, Belfast with the key note address this year delivered by BBC Northern Ireland presenter Tessa Fleming.
Fiona Campbell, Chair of the RTS NI said: “The RTS NI Student Awards aim to encourage, nurture and reward the exceptional talent and enthusiasm of students creating film and video content in colleges and universities across Northern Ireland. These third level institutions are to be congratulated for the vital role they play to ensure their students graduate with the skills necessary to start working in the vibrant Northern Ireland creative industries sector.”
Aidan Browne, Chair of the RTS NI Students Awards said: “Our student awards are a fantastic way to highlight the talent and creativity of our students by providing emerging talent in Northern Ireland with a high-profile platform to showcase their work. Winning one of these awards will provide our winners with a prestigious accolade to help them with their future careers.”
Tessa Fleming said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to talk to the next generation of content makers at this year’s RTS NI Student Awards about my career journey so far from journalism college to presenting on BBC Northern Ireland.”

- A Grandparents’ Story: Tom Greer – Belfast Metropolitan College
- A Pandemic Poem: Shannon Hamill – Belfast Metropolitan College
- Brenda: Dan Stevenson and Miguel Lidasan – Ulster University
- Defining Street Food: Samuel Robinson, Ryan Elliman and Toby James – Queens University Belfast
- Francois Got Buffed: Cónal ÓMianáin – Belfast Metropolitan College
- Made in the Emerald Isle: Caitlin Hurley, Ellery Wooff, Cian Flanagan and Kerah Reyes – Queens University Belfast
- The Hunger Pandemic: Aisling Totten and Maria Sloan – Belfast Metropolitan College
- What You Have To Remember: Jane McWilliams, Hannah Murray, Rachel Dyer and Tasha Vincent – Queens University Belfast
The winners of the RTS NI Student Awards 2022 go forward to the national RTS Student Media Awards in London on Friday 24th June. The winners are also invited to the RTS NI Programme Awards in Belfast in May 2022, where they will meet top professionals from across the screen industries. Tickets are available here.
