New series of Lightning begins on BBC Two today
Date Posted: March 14, 2022
A new series of the popular game show Lightning airs weekdays from today (Monday 14th March) on BBC Two at 6:30pm. Produced by Belfast-based Nice One Productions and Fizz TV, comedian Zoe Lyons presents the electrifyingly fast quiz with a £3,000 jackpot. The series was made in Northern Ireland with funding from Northern Ireland Screen.
Lightning sees the traditional quiz show collide with game show, in a fast-paced and frantic format designed to leave contestants’ nerves in tatters.
Six plucky contestants compete across six rounds testing their general knowledge, quick thinking and speedy reactions whilst the ruthless spotlight patrols the studio.
Contestants aim to pass the dreaded light from themselves onto a rival of their choice by correctly answering a question or completing a physical task before lightning strikes – but only viewers at home can see the ticking clock, and whoever gets caught in the light when the time runs out at the end of the round is struck by lightning and eliminated from the game.
The contestants’ motivation in each round is simple: stay out of the light and you’ll be all right!
Lightning is a 30 x 30’ series and the Executive Producers are Neale Simpson (Fizz) and Chris Jones (Nice One). It was commissioned by Carla-Maria Lawson, BBC Head of Daytime and Early Peak, and Muslim Alim, Commissioning Editor BBC Daytime and Early-Peak.
Lightning starts Monday 14th March at 6.30pm on BBC Two and will be available on BBC iPlayer after broadcast.
