BBC Academy Digital Cities 26 – 28 January: A series of FREE events for the creative industries

Digital Cities Virtual returns on Tuesday 26th January for another fantastic lineup of online events for people working in or interested in TV and related creative industries.
Sessions from BBC Academy include skills training on demystifying the Instagram and Facebook algorithm and a masterclass with the top social media and marketing team behind smash BBC hit His Dark Materials.
ScreenSkills, the organisation for TV, film, VFX, animation and games, will be back with their careers team and a full line up of sessions called New Year – New Job. They will be running best practice and advice sessions on transferable skills for the industry and how to sell them to others; opportunities and advice on how to review your career to date and plan for the future; and there’ll be up-to-date information on training schemes, apprenticeships, work placements and job opportunities.
Insights on careers and opportunities in the screen industries continues with Northern Ireland’s ScreenWorks, who will be taking your career questions to triple Emmy award winning casting director Carla Stronge. She will be discussing her role in shows such as Game of Thrones, The Fall and Derry Girls.
If that is not enough to get you excited this new year, then BBC Academy Digital Cities also have unmissable masterclasses and panel sessions to inspire:
- Fans of Line of Duty and the writing of Jed Mecurio will be able to hear from the man himself when Hat Trick’s Louise Gallagher talks to Jed about his career and the eagerly awaited sixth series of his gripping police drama.
- BBC News’ Babita Sharma will be in conversation with Deborah Williams, Executive Director of the Creative Diversity Network.
- Join the STEAMhouse team at VR Birmingham, with the Keiken Collective and host Taran Singh as they explore World Building in Virtual Reality.
- Nations and Regions Media Futures will be hosting a session on the role of the Location Manager.
- LA Smith from Manchester film company Red Productions, and Jack Thompson technical director Manchester International Festival will be discussing how locations are decided to fit the script and what skills you need to become a location manager.
- Future Film Festival film makers, give advice to aspiring short film makers on how to develop and shoot your short, promote your work and submit to festivals.
- Hello Culture is also back with two sessions looking at Digital and Queer Culture in the Arts – a not-to-be missed keynote conversation with artist and baritone Le Gateau Chocolat – who’s work spans drag, cabaret, opera, musical theatre, children’s theatre and live art. There’s also a further exploration of how Queer communities created online spaces to express their cultural lives during lockdown, with museum consultants Dan Vo and Sacha Coward and Kate O’Donnell artistic director Trans Creative.
- BBC Young Reporter Team will be delivering workshops for young people looking to start their career journey in TV with a focus this month on VFX and immersive tech.
