Foyle Film Festival’s Light In Motion competition open for entries

Northern Ireland’s only Oscar® affiliated film festival has launched its 2016 Light In Motion (LIM) competition, open to filmmakers and animators across the world. Based in Derry~Londonderry, the Foyle Film Festival competition is also BAFTA and BIFA recognised and will remain open for entries until 23 September 2016.
Over the past 17 years four different LIM competitors have all proceeded to Oscar® glory, including Belfast director Terry George for his captivating Northern Ireland-set short The Shore in 2012, Martin McDonagh with Six Shooter and most recently, Laurent Witz, for the beautifully animated feature Mr Hublot in 2014.
The festival offers filmmakers, animators and artists a unique platform to screen their films, network with industry professionals and gain access to the international market. The 2013 winner of Best Irish Short, Stephen Fingleton has achieved success on the Irish and International stages garnering BAFTA and BIFA nominations and an IFTA Rising Star award for his first feature film The Survivalist. Also, receiving international acclaim was Belfast-based film Boogaloo and Graham, which after the Foyle Film Festival took home a BAFTA and made it onto the prestigious shortlist for the Oscars®.
Foyle Film Festival is an IMDb Qualifying Festival, granting all eligible film submissions a fast-tracked title page on IMDb.com. Competition categories under LIM are, Best Short Film, Best Irish Short Film, Best Animation and Best Documentary. Recipients of the LIM Award qualify for consideration in the Short Films and Animation categories of the Academy Awards® without needing the standard theatrical run.
Organised by the Nerve Centre, and funded by DCAL through Northern Ireland Screen and by Derry City and Strabane District Council, Foyle Film Festival delivers a comprehensive programme of documentaries, short films and feature films from all over the world; a full programme of educational events for schools, youth, and adults and an impressive array of industry networking events and panel discussions.
