Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund Announces 2024 Funding Decisions

Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF) is delighted to announce its latest funding decisions for 2024. Funding was awarded across a wide genre of content with a total of 20 projects receiving funding. The aims of the ILBF are to promote the production and broadcast of quality Irish language content for an audience in Northern Ireland and beyond and to help grow the local Irish language production sector.

50 years on from the Guildford pub bombings that led to one of the worst miscarriages of justice in legal history, Ceathrar Guildford, a documentary from Below the Radar for TG4 will tell the story of Gerry Conlon’s family’s ongoing pursuit of justice. Below the Radar’s online platform Meon Eile will also return for its 13th series.

Back for a third series is Strident Media’s Bog Amach, which will air on BBC NI and RTÉ. This factual entertainment series helps find the perfect country homes and rural lifestyles for families trying to escape the hassle of city living. Beidh Aonach Amárach, the feel-good series that takes us into the heart of our rural communities through their colour and energetic country fairs will return for its 5th series to TG4 and RTÉ.

Imagine Media’s Scéalta na gCorn will return to TG4 for its third series with Gráinne McElwain continuing her journey around Ireland, visiting six new counties in her search to find the fascinating stories behind our nation’s GAA silverware. The company has also received funding for Saol an tSaorálaí an observational documentary series following Ireland’s sports volunteers. The company also received development funding for An Billionaire Butler which explores the remarkable rags to riches story of Donegal emigrant Bernard Lafferty, personal assistant to one of the richest women in the world.

Alt Animation was awarded funding for Doodle Girl, a hand drawn animated series exploring an imaginative world inside of a sketchbook and based on the Doodle Girl books that will air on RTÉ Jr. Also for RTÉ Jr is Flickerpix’s Lúna sa tSuantír which features Lúna as she enters children’s dreams to help them overcome their fears and anxieties with the help of her woodland animal spirit friends and her little moonbug Buzz.

Paper Owl Films has been awarded development funding for series 2 & 3 of Lí Ban, a Celtic animé series written by Máire Zepf for for TG4, S4C and BBC Alba which features unique retelling of Celtic mythological stories.

Ronin Films will produce Mo Scéal Féin for Cúla 4 a landmark series of documentaries about young people told from their perspective.

 

Sárcheol, a dynamic performance-based music series set to explore the diverse musical landscape of Ulster in 2024 comes from Sonas Productions for BBC NI. The company also received funding for An Folk Club a new music series for TG4 that explores the resurgence of iconic folk clubs, delving into the rich history and vibrant present-day scene associated with these wonderful music events. In Cas É from Triplevision Productions for TG4, emerging Irish-speaking artists from distinctly different musical backgrounds will swap songs and their challenge will be to reimagine, reinvent and perform live in just 3 days.

LIGID Productions will produce a documentary for RTÉ and TG4 on the life and times of legendary Irish language broadcaster, Rónán Mac Aodha Bhuí. In Ar Lorg Aodh Rua, from Brassneck Productions, Conor O’Donnell takes us on a journey through the phenomenal life, mysterious death and extraordinary legacy of Irish Clan chief, Red Hugh O’Donnell.

Macha Media will develop Ríshliocht Uladh, a landmark drama documentary series for BBCNI and for BBC Alba which will explore the epic struggles for power in Gaelic Ireland, told from the point of view of the Gaelic chieftains themselves. Big Mountain Productions received funding to develop Bua nó Bás a physical game series that brings today’s heroes to battle in a virtual arena.

Development funding was awarded to two drama projects through the Gealán scheme for low budget features, Ag Dul Abhaile from Village Films and Filleadh from Cyprus Avenue Films.

Is iad aidhmeanna an CCG ná léiriú agus craoladh ábhar ardchaighdeáin Gaeilge do lucht féachana i dTuaisceart Éireann agus níos faide i gcéin a chur chun cinn agus cur le forbairt na hearnála léirithe Gaeilge ar bhonn áitiúil.

Tá maoiniú faighte ag an chomhlacht fosta faoi choinne Saol an tSaorálaí, clár faisnéise breathnóireachta a leanann saorálaithe spóirt na hÉireann.
