Makematic – Trainee Assistant Producer

Makematic is committed to making better educational media. We develop educational video and animation for customers including Amazon Studios, Adobe, Microsoft, Macmillan Education, Oxford University Press, Scholastic, Crayola, Khan Academy and the BBC – as well as our own Intellectual Property in collaboration with high-profile foundations and philanthropic organisations.

We also license a lot of content we develop to 3rd party educational apps, websites and remote learning platforms around the world – helping to reach and inspire a generation of global learners who are empowered to take action. Our aim is “to become the world’s most trusted educational media partner for purpose-driven brands, publishers and not for profits”.
You’ll be working alongside an established and growing team of creatives – both staff and freelance – to develop fun and engaging slick motion graphics, animation, and live action educational content.

Job Description
​​​​​​​

A Trainee Assistant Producer at Makematic is a key part of the team, working alongside a lead producer across any number of our educational projects. The purpose of this position is to support each assigned project from concept through to completion.

This role is full-time and is hybrid– based in our Belfast office and remote.

Job Summary:
​​​Job Title: Trainee Assistant Producer
Contract Length: 12-month Company Placement
Start Date: January 2024
Hours: 37.5hrs per week
Salary: Real Living Wage (currently £12.00 per hour)
​​​​Location: Hybrid

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development and creative vision on assigned projects.
  • Support the production workflow from concept to delivery on assigned projects.
  • Assist with set up and organisation of shoots.
  • Working closely with project team
  • Liaising with relevant internal and external team members
  • Completing all necessary postproduction paperwork and metadata, and ensuring it is accurate and delivered on time.

  • Ability to handle fast paced environment
  • Understanding of production process and client services
  • Excellent spoken and written communication, with a positive and collaborative attitude
  • High attention to detail, with excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Computer literacy with skills in Google Docs, Word, Excel

​​​​​​Desirable Skills

  • Research Skills
  • Interest in short form educational content
  • Interest in animation production
  • Familiarity of Adobe Creative Suite and Premiere Pro

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is willing to learn on the job and help with the smooth operation of our animation and in game cinematic productions.  As a Trainee Animation Production Assistant in our animation and gaming studio, you will play a crucial role in helping our artists deliver high-quality animated content. You will be working alongside professionals in the industry who will always be happy to help, teach and encourage you throughout the journey.  Once trained, your responsibilities will include the below whilst working with the coordinator:

Essential Criteria

  • A passion for animation and a desire to work in the industry.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to the dynamic nature of animation production.

Desirable Criteria

  • You will be using Trello, Unreal Engine, Excel, Resolve, Adobe Creative Suite software so  any knowledge of these is a plus.
