FilmClub is a UK-wide, free after schools initiative funded in Northern Ireland by DCAL and the Office of the First Minister and deputy First Minister through Northern Ireland Screen and delivered by Cinemagic and the Nerve Centre.
FilmClub gives pupils and teachers in Northern Ireland the chance to explore the world of film with free weekly screenings, online reviewing, industry events and hands-on support. FilmClub inspires, excites and opens up new avenues for learning. At present the scheme is only available to those schools in receipt of Extended Schools Funding.
A popular after school activity, FilmClub in Northern Ireland quickly expanded from 1 pilot school in 2006 to 68 Extended Schools across Northern Ireland by 2011. In 2012/13 the scheme was expanded to 229 Extended Schools across Northern Ireland.
As part of the programme, participating schools deliver at least 15 screenings a year and post a minimum of 20 reviews on the FilmClub website.
