The deadline for the Galway Film Fleadh Pitching Award has been extended to Friday June 15th 2012 – so get your entries in now!
The 24th Galway Film Fleadh will take place from Tuesday 10th to Sunday 15th of July. The Pitching Award is a live event where five short-listed applicants pitch their idea for a film to a panel of industry experts. The winner receives €3,000 to enable him/her to further develop their script and enhance their writing skills.
The application process is simple: applicants submit a 500 word story idea for screen which is then read by a designated industry panel (all copies must be submitted blind i.e. your name must not appear on the story page). The best five are shortlisted and invited to present their pitch to a panel of judges. This will take place in front of an audience on Sunday 15th July at the Galway Film Fleadh.
For those selected, it is a golden opportunity to communicate their story and win support for their idea. As for the winner, the prize can allow them the time to develop and expand their pitch into a full feature film script, as was the case with Will Collins and My Brothers which was the opening film of the 2010 Galway Film Fleadh.
Maybe in three years, your film could be opening the Galway Film Fleadh! So get writing!
Last year’s winner, Rioghnach Ní Ghrioghair has said of her win that ‘it has given me a huge confidence boost.’ Her project has since gone one to win a major prize at ENGAGE 2011 in Helsinki.
