Spotlight on winning screenwriting talent McCartney and Cairns
Northern Ireland Screen is delighted to announce the winning script of their New Talent Focus 2011 is A PATCH OF FOG, by Michael McCartney and John Cairns. The annual scheme is aimed at encouraging Northern Ireland screenwriting talent.
The winning project was announced at a lunch hosted by Northern Ireland Screen in Cannes this year. Attended by 150 industry guests including financiers, sales agents and distributors, amongst whom was renowned UK producer Robert Jones (The Usual Suspects; Dirty Pretty Things; Run Fatboy Run; Trap for Cinderella), who will produce the Belfast set microbudget feature.
Jones describes the film as a “cat and mouse thriller, an inverse buddy movie where you are never quite sure who has the upper hand.” Backed by the BFI, Film 4 and Northern Ireland Screen, Jones will produce for his outfit The Jones Company.
Jones is also working with McCartney and Cairns on another project, an American set feature called Sterile, which “owes its lineage to films like The Hands That Rocks The Cradle and Unlawful Entry, films that we haven’t seen for a while.”
